How much of the EditField is using Cocoa or Carbon has nothing to do with how possible it is to set the horizontal scrollbar on the fly. And FWIW, I tend to agree with the other posters -- you're trying all the hard approaches, when really you should just get the splitter (and other code) to work with the two EditFields (encapsulating them in a Container Control or PagePanel if necessary).
