I guess I count as a "convert" then - ie I used to think it was a good idea just to declare all at the top, but particularly with the later scope changes RS inntroduced I find myself dimming more and more close to useage. In the final analysis, all "dimming at top" gives you is a list of variables present in a method, but how useful is this really? And I would suggest it actually makes it more likely that variables become easily "orphaned" and unused.
