Problem solved, but I don't know why. This was a small program, so I took a couple hours to move all the code into a new program copy. I did not change any of the code, nor did I change the icon. Now, everything works fine in the new copy and the icon is not translucent. Something must have gotten sideways in the old copy. If I ever figure out what caused the problem I"ll post it to the list.
