SMIL is for layout and timing of media-- there is no way to make SMIL to
display any text (except that you can tell it when & where to display some
RealText.)
You would more than likely have to either do a live RealText broadcast that
broadcasts the current date and then have your SMIL display that RealText,
or else have some sort of server-side script that generates the current
date in RealText and have the SMIL display that.
