It sure would be nice to have a "theory of operation" for the SMIL
server/player interaction, so that this (and the behavior I observed re:
selecting TCP vs. UDP) is more explicable.

I've been wondering whether the TCP/UDP selection is because all of the
"concurrency" implied by the SMIL <par> tags in my test causes the UDP
option in the overlapped preroll to time out, and thus TCP gets erroneously
selected.

But lacking any diagnostic tools or documentation, that's just an
unverifiable theory.
