Subject: Re: RealProducer + Laptop + Linux?
I don't have any experience with PCMCIA or USB capture devices on
Linux. These solutions ususally requires a software component running
as well as a driver and thus I am skeptical that anyone has written
drivers/software for this since it would be up to the manufacturer to
port their software applicatoins.
Also, my experience with capture on laptops is that the software that
enables this often takes a good deal of your CPU and you end up with
little left for the RealProducer. I myself refuse to do capture on a
laptop for any live events.
If you are looking for a portable encoding solution I recommend you take
a look at iTuner's 'MediaBox' solution. Go to http://www.ituner.com and
look in the upper right corner. This box is almost laptop size
(thicker), runs linux, has 3 PCI slots for capture cards and audio cards
and they have a special web-based interface to the producer so you don't
have to even have a monitor for the enocder machine as long as you have
network connection to it. very cool IMHO.
cheers!
