The original intent was to simply release a quick fix to provide backwards compatibility for the new shadows, but in the couple of days since 0.2.3 release there were already notable new features, so we decided to call the new version 0.2.4. The shadows should now work with legacy materials on Direct3D 9 systems (note that on Windows Vista and 7 you may have to install DirectX 9 separately or the Naali viewer will use OpenGL instead). There are still some issues with OpenGL rendering that should be fixed in 0.2.5 (later this summer). As a new feature Naali now has improved texture caching. The textures are now saved in decoded format, which will save some time especially on slower computers when re-entering a world. The effects are especially dramatic on the N900 that now runs Naali much more smoothly. The tradeoff is some hard drive space, fortunately there are also new configuration options for managing the cache.
