Looks as Second Life is may be planning to address part of the problem 
described previously. This

 would 
prevent cameras from seeing avatars in a restricted space, but wouldn't 
necessarily protect IP on surfaces (lesson plans or quizzes on blackboards, 
fashion designs in stores, etc.)
