Lest this announcement go without any comment whatsoever, let me congratula= te everyone who worked on getting the OS X version to its first alpha rel= ease. I'm almost exclusively on Mac these days, so the arrival of a nativ= e version of /View is very welcome news to me. This may well be enough to= revive my near-dormant interest in REBOL!
After a quick play with it today, I am impressed at how far advanced this i= s for an alpha release. I am also very happy to see REBOL/View finally in= the native OS X GUI - great stuff! If I could be so bold as to suggest some priorities for further work, I'd s= ay that things like menus, clipboard, and timers are right up there as th= e most important. I reckon most people can live without everything else w= hile that stuff is being sorted out. But I guess you don't need me to be = telling you that. Frankly, I'm just delighted to see /View appear in OS X. Well done everyone= - keep those alphas (and betas!) coming. (We will bundle it pretty soon). * No installation. View will run in the dir you put it in. That also means it will create the public cache in that same dir. * No timers. So scripts that use timers (like a few of the demos) do not yet work. * Still uses CTRL keys for apps, not yet APPLE CMD key. * DRAW (AGG) does not support fonts. * Also missing: menus, file requestor (native), clipboard port, icons, and much more. But, despite all that, it still does ok for an early prototype.
