Over on Altme/REBOL3ask, there is a discussion about (among other things)
reviewing, rating and ranking published REBOL scripts.
That's a great idea, and I hope it leads to greater prominence for many REBOL
scripts which are currently published in dark corners that search engines
rarely visit.
The largest public collection (I believe) of REBOL scripts is over on the
Script Library on rebol.org. These are highly visible to search engines, and
they
have a variety of ways in which they can be reviewed, rated and ranked
already.
Sadly, very few community members have reviewed, rated or ranked any of the
scripts on REBOL.org.
So the rest of this message is a summary of the methods by which you could
make your views known.

Even (perhaps especially) if you are one of the developers of the proposed
Internet-wide REBOL Script review process, it would make sense to spend some
time actively using the methods available on REBOL.org: using something for
real
is a good way of devising better ways of doing things; plus it may be possible
to share some rating information between the systems, so scripts rated now on
REBOL.org will give you a head start on the new system.

001: Script popularity:
http://www.rebol.org/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/rebol/script-popularity.r
This is an automated ranking system based (in large part) on how often (on
average) scripts have been downloaded or viewed in the last three months.
That's not totally meaningful as a vast majority of accesses are by search
engine spiders rather than humans. But it gives a sort of rough-and-ready idea
of how prominent scripts are.
The algorithm takes some other aspects of popularity into account too. For
example, it marks a script down a bit if it has no owner....
http://www.rebol.org/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/rebol/temp-display-unowned-scripts.r
....The theory being that if the owner doesn't want to claim it, we know for
a fact that it is not very popular with at least one person.
So one way to promote scripts you wrote is to claim them.

002: Discussion:
http://www.rebol.org/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/rebol/cpt-active-posts.r
Every script can have a discussion thread hanging from it.
Feel free to use this facility to report bugs, ask for extra features,
compliment the author on their skills, say how the script saved your life, etc.

003: Other scripts by:

If you are looking at a script owned by someone, you are only a click away
from seeing all scripts in the Library by them.

004: Favorites:
http://www.rebol.org/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/rebol/fav-index.r
Any time you are logged on and looking at a Script (or article, or ML
message, or Library member), you can click the "add to favorites" link.
You favorites can be private (as most people's are) or public (as the few you
see on the link above are).
Making them public is a good way of letting other people see what scripts
(etc) you consider to be noteworthy. You can also add a little note to each
favorite explaining it further.
In addition, when editing your favorites, you can add a 0-100 rating. That
isn't used by anything yet. But when enough people have created favorites
(private or public) ratings, we will feed those into a ranking system.
More info on favorites:

If you can spare a little time to browse the Library and add some ratings and
reviews, it'll be a tremendous help to the people who come after you to find
the golden nuggets it contains.
Happy reviewing!
