It was more basic than nowadays and the base recipe was only made out of flour, spice, water and cabbage. Now it has lots of variety and each area has its own special style. Osaka okonomiyaki has a thicker and richer taste, and Tokyo has a thinner and healthier okonomiyaki (a.k.a monjayaki).
