I find the comments on increase in racism since the Olympics interesting.
There is a similar phenomenon with homophobia. Every year around the time of
the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras the number of violent attacks against
lesbians and gay men increase hugely - even though it is commonly assumed
the acceptance of the Mardi Gras is a sign of community tolerance. However
for hard core homophobes it is like waving a red rag at a bull.
Seems the same applies to racism.
