Dear Andrew, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to you for committing to vote against the GST. The voters will not forget those people who sought to look after the best interests of the majority (the disadvantaged, the poor, the low-middle income earners, and the small businesses), rather than the interests of the affluent few. By crossing the floor, you will prove yourself to be the type of Democrat that we thought we voted in. Once again, however, I urge you to take advantage of the loyalty that you hereby create, and to form a worthwhile alliance with other socially responsible politicians (even if that means starting a new party). Although it may sound idealistic, it is nonetheless true that if such high profile and scrupulous politicians as yourself, Natasha, Bob Brown, Peter Garrett, etc., got together, you would have an extremely strong following that would be a force to be reckoned with. THEN you could start to effect some real positive change in our society. I for one would vote for such an alliance, and I know many others would as well. I would also be willing to offer my services in whatever capacity I could to make such an alliance effective. I've spoken to a lot of like-minded people, many of whom have extensive experience in social mobilisation, community action, and campaigning in general (both corporate and social). If we could establish a united and well meaning party, you would have a very formidable power base from which to work. Thank you once again for your strength and your commitment.
