Forwarded from Christine Howes:

I have been told by Anne Mullins of the Constitutional Centenary
Foundation [phone 1800 622 001, or 03 9344 0724], who checked with the
Australian Electoral Commission [13 23 26], that in the Referendum you
can write
anything you like on the front or back of the ballot paper AS LONG AS IN

THE VOTING BOX THERE APPEARS ONLY THE WORD 'YES' OR THE WORD'NO'.
Anything else in that box makes the vote informal / invalid.

You also may not write anything on the ballot paper that identifies you.
