While Aboriginal and Islander people are still under-represented in tertiary education, a Federal Government report has found there has been a steady increase in the number of indigenous students since 1987. But indigenous students are usually older than other students and more likely to be female and studying externally. Indigenous students are also more concentrated in teaching faculties and less likely to study science or economics.
