Walking the Land for our Ancient Right ~ a walk across the Land for Peace, Freedom, Reconciliation and Healing, for the Land and its Peoples. Led by Kevin Buzzacott, Arabunna Elder and Peacemaker. A group of walkers are reaching Canberra on Monday, August 21, at about 11 a.m., after leaving Lake Eyre in northern South Australia over 10 weeks ago. We are carrying the sacred Fire for Peace, lit on the shore of the Ancient Lake. "The Fire is the oldest ceremony on Earth. It warms our hearts and bodies, it draws people together to talk in Peace, in heals the spirit." There is so much damage to heal. The Walk has taken us through desert and mountain ranges, through river country and cities and towns. The old Land and waters and people are suffering hurt and sickness, radioactive mines, dried-up springs, poisoned rivers and groundwaters, salty exhausted soils, silted rivers. People are sorrowful for the future of their children. >From Kevin Buzzacott: "We've got to break through for Peace, bring people to the Fire to talk, and end all this hurt and destruction. "Come and join the Walk through our Land. The old ancestors are with us, bringing their blessing. 'You can join us any place ~ just bring your self, your swag, bring your flags and stories and music and spirit." * * * * * The Walk will arrive in Canberra, Monday August 21: The Walk will be staying at the Aboriginal Tent Embassy while in Canberra, opposite the old parliament house. Monday August 21, 11 a.m.: Walkers welcomed, and walk through town together with local people (meeting place to be advised tomorrow) Wednesday August 23: The Native American Sacred Runners arrive in Canberra and are received at the Tent Embassy. They have been running through all countries, around the world, and are bringing a message and appeal for Peace to Sydney. Friday August 25: Visit by very senior Elders from north-west Australia, to meet with people at the Tent Embassy. Saturday August 26: The Walk for Peace departs for Sydney, to arrive on about September 1. The Walk is a wonderful experience - Come and join us for this final part of our journey.
