conditions/background of those involved in the Woomera riot might be of

A message from Julian:
Concerning who is responsible for the riots at woomera. Ruddock has
been saying that the perpetrators are those who have no legal
entitlelment to refugee status. This has been taken by the media to
mean that those responsible are those who have had their application
for refugee status refused. So Ruddock is conniving in a portrait of
the rioters as sour grape illegals who have had the benefit of advice
and whose claim has been looked at and who do not deserve any
sympathy.
This is so cynical and devious as to defy belief.
I spoke today with one of the lawyers from woomera who told me that
all
those who received negative decisions were quite happy as they had
all
applied to the Refugee Review Tribunal and were hopeful of success as
the great majority of those who had applied to the RRT were
successful.
There were only about three who were not successful.
The people who are involved are those who were been screened out at
the
first interview. This means they have not been allowed even to apply
for refugee status. They have been kept in the camp variously since
Novemeber and December and January. These have been denied access to
legal advice and have no idea of their rights. They have no idea what
is going to happen to them. Not only arbitrary but indefinite
detention.
What does Phil expect if he treats people like animals.
