Victoria launches inquiry into WEF violence
AAP --
Victorian state ombudsman Dr Barry Perry has launched an inquiry into
allegations of police brutality
during protests outside the World Economic Forum this week.
Dr Perry said his office already had received written complaints and
"numerous" telephone inquiries
from protesters claiming to have been injured when police cleared a
pathway through a blockade
around the Crown Casino on Tuesday night.
"I've spoken to the Chief Commissioner Mr Comrie this afternoon and
advised him that my office will
conduct that investigation into matters involving police operation in
respect of the demonstration at the
World Economic Forum," Dr Perry said.
Mr Perry said the inquiry would cover both police operations during the
protest and individual
complaints about "excessive force" by police.
