Greetings Robert and Welcome to Apache OpenOffice (AOO). We can definitely use
someone of your background and experience in Technical Writing. We are
currently in the process of redefining the process by which we create
documentation, especially the Users Guides.

We do have have some orientation pages at the
following:https://openoffice.apache.org/orientation/index.html. Levels 1 and 2
give a basic understanding of of how the project works, and an introduction to
the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) and the and the infrastructure that it
provides to support the projects. Then the level 3 pages get into the
different ways to contribute to AOO. The one of most interest for know would
be the Introduction to Documentation.

It gives an overview of how the documentation team works and the
infrastructure tools that we most use. It will suggest that you subscribe to
the doc@ mailing list, but I strongly suggest that you also subscribe to dev@
mailing list as well. Instructions can be found at
https://openoffice.apache.org/mailing-lists.html#development-mailing-list-public.

I look forward to working closely with you as we move forward on writing
professional quality documentation for AOO.

Regards
Keith N. McKenna
