I second what John says. In fact, I'm sure the api could mirror the api were all familiar with.

thanks for asking - this is somehting that we've been working towards since day one.
I'm not the best guy to answer your questions, but I can tell you that we're working towards making the transition from FMS to Red5 as easy as possible. Right now, we're working out the API and it's taking shape quite nicely. That being said, developing with Red5 should be very similar to FMS - but I can't really tell you HOW close right now. I'm hoping its very close or at least, it's very easy to convert and understand based on what you've experienced with FMS so far.
Scripting/rhino implementation, btw, has been moved to 0.6 for now. We just had a meeting about adjusting the scope of Red5 and making sure our milestones are in line with our mission. Right now, the hottest topic is performance. So, we're working towards the stream code being refactored and some other areas being streamlined for 0.5's release.
So, in the end, we'll have the ability to use _javascript_ (essentially AS1) and we'll be working hard to provide developers with a roadmap of FMS -> Red5 and back. it's a personal goal of mine to make sure there's as little pain there as possible. How it finaly works out is still a guess however ;)
Hope that helps,
JG
