Gday, i installed the plugin

http://www.igniterealtime.org/projects/wildfire/plugins-beta/red5/readme.html

the link here is a 404, so where is the application on here to test.

also what does this mean, i checked out this Pandion app is a jabber client, is it able to do video via red5 then ? I cant seem to find an equivalent for osx.

If you use Pandion as your XMPP client, there is a plugin to exchange video with another Pandion user. Just copy red5.pdn to the plugins folder. There should now be a entry labelled "Video Chat" on the menu when you right click on a roster contact.

Im assuming the idea is to use the XMPP service with a flash chat client and obviouslly video via red5. would be nice via spark etc, as im checking it out for secure private collaborating/conferencing / file sharing.

Dan,

Gday this is excellent thankyou. Im downloading all the goodies now, im assuming there is video conference capabilities in the spark client

with red5 as a plugin, or is that yet to be developed ? Also is there a standalone flash group chat application which uses the XIFF library and then may also have the capabilities of video conferencing via the
red5
plugin. I noticed the XIFF package is AS2, i wonder if there is a AS3
version for plugging into a flex app.

There's a new version of XIFF under development that's AS3. Hopefully it
will be released soon (the work is done by a community member and not
Jive Software). There's no integration between XIFF and Red5 yet, but
that would be a very interesting direction. :)

Also, no integration between Spark and Red5 yet. We've actually only
been working on rich media for XMPP for a short time so far. XMPP has an
extension called Jingle that is equivalent to SIP in many ways. Most
people are working on Jingle audio so far (it's what powers the audio
feature in Google Talk). Not a lot of work on video yet. We have a
Jingle stack working as well as a SIP stack for Spark. Our Jingle work
is Open Source and SIP will be commercial (intended for PBX
integration). On the Wildfire (server) side, we've built a media proxy
and are working on a STUN server implementation to assist with NAT
traversal.

You can see the media work in our roadmap:
