David Beckham has tipped Wayne Rooney to become an international star of the future.
Rooney has been tipped for a shock inclusion in Sven-Goran Eriksson's England squad to face Australia at Upton Park next month. Toffees boss David Moyes has been desperately trying to shield the 17-year-old from the avalanche of publicity he is beginning to receive and has indicated he feels a senior call-up might be too much too soon. Speaking on MUTV, Beckham refused to enter that particular debate. However, the Manchester United midfielder is convinced Rooney will eventually make the breakthrough and has praised Moyes' handling of his ascent to stardom. "Wayne has done remarkably well since coming into the Everton side," said Beckham. "It is up to Sven and his backroom staff when they bring him into the squad but if he carries on the way he has, Wayne is going to be one of our greatest players." Beckham has first-hand experience of Moyes' managerial methods after working with the squad during a loan period at Preston early in his career. "I know David quite well and he seems to be looking after Wayne as Sir Alex Ferguson did with us," he added. *************************************** Reply to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subscribe to the list: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe from the list: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Your use of Yahoo!
