Rio Ferdinand's knee injury will be assessed by Manchester United medical staff on Friday after England's flight home from Spain was delayed. The star defender is set to return to United's Carrington training base to allow his club doctors to determine the severity of the problem he sustained in last week's friendly win over South Africa in Durban.
Ferdinand jetted in from La Manga late on Thursday night as coach Sven Goran Eriksson sweats on the fitness of his back-four lynchpin. "There is no news yet but an assessment will now take place tomorrow (Friday),'' said a Red Devils spokesman. An announcement on Ferdinand's chances of facing Serbia-Montenegro on Tuesday and Slovakia in a Euro 2004 qualifier next month is expected in the afternoon. __________________________________________________ Yahoo!
