AN American college soccer star who was left for dead after a brutal attack
in England has had a dream meeting with his heroes from Manchester United.

Ross Good was in a coma for eight days and his promising soccer career was
ruined after he was pushed off a 20ft wall.

But skipper Roy Keane and manager Sir Alex Ferguson helped to bring him some
cheer when United played Celtic in Seattle this week.

Ross, 22, was given a signed shirt and introduced to each United star by Sir
Alex.

He said: "I've always supported United and this is just incredible. I am
just totally overwhelmed that they could do all this just for me."

His mother Carla said: "I managed to keep the whole thing a secret from Ross
until the last minute."

Ross was on tour with Whitman College, from Washington State, a year ago
when he was mugged for his backpack while in Weston-super-Mare. He fell over
a sea wall, suffering a fractured skull, damaged vertebrae and a collapsed
eardrum.

His parents and sister Elizabeth flew from the States to be at his bedside
when he recovered consciousness.

His dream meeting with his football heroes came after he wrote to Frenchay
Hospital in Bristol thanking the surgeons for saving his life.

"I grew up idolising Manchester United. Do you think there would be any way
for me to get them to sign a jersey or something?" he wrote.

Ross won a special award for his positive attitude in dealing with the
attack.

He still has back problems and has lost the senses of smell and taste, but
has returned to college.

"I have about a 90 per cent chance of returning to football next year which I'm very
excited about," he said.
