I wasn't too bothered about seeing Becks go. I think he wanted to -- and
more importantly I think Roy Keane wanted him to as well because of the
media circus (let alone Fergie). I'm thinking Keane's been looking a lot
happier on the pitch this season so far -- even going so far as to smile
during the celebrations when we score...

Veron's departure was the more disapointing for my money though: Seba
copped a lot of flak for that first disappointing season but it's hard to
look good in a team that isn't playing well and overall there were a lot of
others who weren't playing at the level required either. In the middle of
last season however the wheels were starting to come off again: we'd
collected a few major long-term injuries, had not had a good start -- and
all of a sudden Seba stepped it up (in tandem with Scholes) to win Utd
through the Champions League group stages in a great deal of style. It was
from those successes that the unbeaten run-in to the Premier title can be
credited to.

JSV wasn't bought with the intention of becoming the main provider of
'assists' for goals but he was great at getting the provider away in the
first place (assisting the assitors?) -- something we'd been struggling
with against the better teams who could not only shut Utd's chances down
but the creation of those chances. Veron could put the winger/Scholes away
with the space to do something in (which usually amounted to giving it to
Ruud). Having said that it's noticeable that Chelski are playing Veron
further forward in that roaming pocket role that Utd have made Scholes such
a success in.

Luckily Dj^2 has shown some flashes of an eye for the similar pass and his
distribution is good overall; and while Kleebs is still an unknown you've
got to imagine that with being Brazilian he's got some idea of playmaking;
but we're still missing that guy with the vision and the ability to
instantly change the pace/direction of play again with Seba's departure.
