on the plus side, Anschutz is one of a couple of guys keeping soccer
alive over here. It's not mentioned here but he's one of the main
investors in MLS and without him and Lamar Hunt, this league would be
dead. That said, United should stay in the hands of the fans, not one
person or corporation

Seagulls takeover speculation once again?

U.S. Billionaire Eyeing Manchester United, Paper Reports
LONDON (Reuters) - U.S. billionaire Philip Anschutz has identified
British
football club Manchester United Plc as a potential takeover target, the
Mail Sunday newspaper reported.
But the paper said Anschutz, unknown in Britain despite being the owner
of
the Millennium Dome in London, was unlikely to launch a bid for English
football's champion team in the near term given his U.S. business
interests
and his work on relaunching the ill-fated Dome.
Anschutz made his fortune from U.S. local telephone company Qwest
Communications International Inc., which he founded.
Manchester United is regularly the subject of bid speculation and talk
flared up again earlier this month, helping the company's shares hit a
two-year high last week.
