Hey RedDotters,

We have a LiveServer 4.x setup with the bundled Verity K2 search
engine installed. This was working fine, but now all of a sudden one
component of the search engine will not start properly. It is the
k2index process, which by default listens on port 9960. The k2server
and k2admin processes start just fine (listening on 9920 and 9950),
but when k2index tries to start it fails repeatedly. Running it
manually shows this error:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>"C:\Program Files\RedDot
\LiveServer\tomcat\webapps\cps\WEB-INF\lib\se\verity\k2\_nti40\bin
\k2index" -ualias rdls_k2indexserver1
K2INDEX - Verity, Inc. Version 6.1.1 (Build 20060204)
Fatal: A process is already running on TCP port 9960
Fatal: K2Index setup encounterd error -6109 - K2Index Server Aborting

But the weird thing is... nothing is tying up port 9960. Netstat
doesn't show this port being open or in use. We have rebooted the
machine multiple times and it still throws this error. I have
reinstalled the Verity K2 search engine multiple times, even forcing
the config to setup k2index with a different port, and it still throws
this error no matter what port I use (though of course replacing 9960
with whatever the configured port is in the error message). I have
done a full reinstall of LiveServer, in case something in the bundled
Verity K2 files had gotten corrupted, and still the k2index process
will not start.

The weird thing is, this was working fine for many months, so I'm not
sure what could have changed that would suddenly be causing this
problem. Something on the machine is very definitely interfering with
the k2index service and its attempt to listen on its port, or else
maybe it's completely misreporting the actual error on startup and
something totally different is going wrong? Either way, I'm currently
stumped. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!

- Keith
