Hello, Our website has (as well as 1000s of static "Content" pages) a lot of web applications (30+ separate web projects) written using Java Servlets and JSPs running on a J2EE web server. They have been written over the last 10 years or more and may be considered by some as "legacy" systems (whatever that means).
We are migrating our static content pages into RedDot CMS. Some people in our organisation are determined to "get EVERYTHING into RedDot", suggesting that all of our web applications too should be rewritten to run on RedDot Live Server. My impression of Live Server (after only doing the training course admittedly) is that it is a bit unwieldly and cumbersome to use. Maybe it is useful if you have a largely static website already and you want to introduce some dynamic elements into it. But to me, rewriting existing web applications for LiveServer from another webserver doesn't make much sense. Our web applications have got quite sophisticated over the years, and I even have doubts as to whether LiveServer is up to the job. They typically interact very heavily with databases and with other systems. So my questions are: is LiveServer a good enough architecture for developing proper fully functional enterprise applications? is there anything to be gained by porting applications to LiveServer from another Web Server technology? is there anything to be gained by writing Live Server wrappers for existing web components (e.g. J2EE) rather than using those components directly from RedDot CMS pages?
