As a workaround, I've been able to pre-assign to the content class a
new keyword which directly represents that content class. The list
keyword assignment then becomes a combination of this new content-
class keyword and the existing keyword. However, this is not ideal
because:

1. It's duplicating existing data with an unnecessary keyword. Is
there any way this auto-keyword can be excluded from the standard
'assign keywords' dialog?

2. Existing pages built from that content class' template do NOT
automatically 'get' that pre-assigned keyword. Is there a way I can
apply it to all existing instances, or do I have to manually apply it
to each and every one (there are 100's)?

This is all in RedDot CMS 7.5, BTW. And a fix for the original problem
would, of course, be preferable :-)
