Same experience here and also got the same response from Development.

I think they said something about having a fix for it in 10, not sure
if that made it through.

Anyways, I do have a what appears to be slightly more effecient work
around.  Use RQLConsole found here:

http://simplyreddot.blogspot.com/2012/02/rqlconsole.html

to send the delete element RQL, hence bypassing some of the overhead
created by the deleteelement.asp
