Cisco 1000

Cisco 1600
The Cisco 1600 Series is the next-generation of modular Internet/intranet access routers, offering unprecedented flexibility and functionality for small offices. Cisco 1600 Series routers connect small offices with Ethernet LANs to the Internet and to company intranets using several wide-area-network (WAN) technologies: Integrated Service Digital Network (ISDN), asynchronous serial, and synchronous serial such as Frame Relay, leased lines, Switched 56, Switched Multimegabit Data Service (SMDS), and X.25.

The range consists of five models. The Cisco 1601 - 1604 routers have an Ethernet port, a built-in WAN port, and a slot for an optional second WAN port. The 1605-R router has two Ethernet ports and one WAN slot. All models are available with optional Cisco IOS Firewall feature set. Cisco ConfigMaker a free, easy-to-use Microsoft Windows 95, 98, and NT 4.0-based software tool makes it easy to configure a small network of Cisco routers, switches, hubs, and other network devices from a single PC.

Cisco 1720
The Cisco 1720 access router delivers optimised security, integration and flexibility in a desktop form factor for small- and medium-sized businesses and small branch offices that want to deploy Internet/intranet access or virtual private networks (VPNs). The Cisco 1720 access router is a modular solution that provides all the components needed to build a secure VPN, including the access router, high-speed encryption, VPN tunnel server, and security features such as robust IPSec support and an optional integrated firewall. This all-in-one solution enables businesses to minimise the time and expense required to deploy and manage networks.

The Cisco 1720 access router features two modular WAN slots that support 1600, 2600, and 3600 data WAN interface cards, and an autosensing 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet LAN port to provide investment protection and flexibility for growth. Other features include an auxiliary port (AUX) for dialup management or low-speed asynchronous connections (of up to 115.2 kbps) and an expansion slot on the motherboard to support future services such as hardware-assisted encryption and compression.

The Cisco 1720 is a member of the Cisco Networked Office stack family of stackable desktop products designed to provide complete networking solutions for small businesses and small branch offices.

Cisco 3600 Series
With the Internet playing an ever-increasing role in business communications, the need to be able to forge direct links with customers, suppliers and partners has never been greater. Typically, companies with branch offices employ multiple network devices to achieve this; but this will turn out to be inadequate as applications become more advanced and bandwidth requirements increase. The answer is to use multifunction devices - especially Cisco's new 3600. This new series of access dialup servers offers an unprecedented degree of support flexibility for dialup applications across both Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) and asynchronous media.

Allowing remote users to efficiently connect to the full range of advanced network applications, the Cisco 3600 series' modularity offers investment protection by enabling customers to affordably extend bandwidth capabilities and network interfaces at any time through a variety of interface modules.

The Cisco 3640 offers four network module slots, the Cisco 3620 has two. Each network module slot can accept a variety of network module interface cards including ISDN PRI, ISDN BRI, and synchronous/ synchronous serial interfaces. LAN and WAN connectivity is provided by a series of mixed-media cards supporting Ethernet, Token Ring, and a selection of WAN technologies.

WAN Interface Cards and Network Modules Deliver Ultimate Flexibility
The Cisco 3600's mixed-media dialup capabilities are designed for modularity and flexibility. The system's small, inexpensive modular WAN interface cards provide simple plug-in adoption of T1/E1 synchronous serial and ISDN BRI media. Its larger network modules offer a combination of support for Ethernet, Token Ring, asynchronous and synchronous serial, ISDN BRI and PRI, and channelized T1/E1.

A Modular Solution with the Full Power of Cisco Software
The Cisco 3600 series is a key component of Cisco's complete end-to-end solution set for dial connectivity. No other vendor can offer as many options for extending the enterprise to remote users. The Cisco 3600 series advances that achievement with new levels of modularity, scalability, and flexibility. This is also boosted considerably by the power of the Cisco IOS software, the de facto standard in internetworking. Cisco IOS software gives Cisco 3600 series customers the opportunity to affordably deploy virtual private networks and support advanced multimedia applications. Users can save through bandwidth optimization techniques, such as data compression and deploy high-quality network security firewalls and data encryption. Scalability is enabled by multilink PPP and multichassis multilink PPP.

Cisco 7500
The Cisco 7500 series is Ciscos premier high-end platform of multiprotocol routers, which includes the Cisco 7505, the Cisco 7507, the Cisco 7513, and the Cisco 7576. These systems combine Cisco Systems proven software technology with exceptional reliability, availability, serviceability, and performance features to meet the requirements of todays most mission-critical internetworks.

The Cisco 7500 series provides information system professionals with the flexibility they need to meet the constantly changing requirements at the core, backbone and distribution points of the internetwork. Cisco 7505 features a high-speed Cisco Extended Bus (CyBus); the Cisco 7507 and Cisco 7513 feature dual CyBuses. Cisco 7576 features four CyBuses. Network interfaces reside on modular interface processors, which provide a direct connection between the CyBus and the external network, and support any combination of ATM, channelized T3, Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, FDDI, IBM channel attachment, multichannel E1 and T1, HSSI, synchronous serial, Token Ring, Packet OC-3 and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.

The Cisco 7505 contains five slots (one slot for the Route Switch Processor (RSP), and four slots for interface processors). Cisco 7507 (see Figure 11-4) contains seven slots (two slots for RSPs, and five slots for interface processors). The Cisco 7513 (see Figure 11-5) contains thirteen slots (two slots for RSPs, and eleven slots for interface processors).

Cisco 7576 contains two routers in a single Cisco 7513 chassis footprint; Router "A" has seven slots (one for a single RSP and six for interface processors), and Router "B" has six slots (one for a single RSP and five for interface processors).

Cisco 7500 series runs Cisco IOS software, the industry-leading networking software. Cisco IOS software assures robust, reliable internetworks by supporting both LAN and WAN protocols, optimising WAN services, and controlling internetwork access. In addition, Cisco IOS software allows centralised, integrated, and automated installation and management of internetworks.

The Cisco 7500 series offers software feature sets and feature licences, which allow you to select the package that best meets your needs. You can select from many different feature sets, which can be enhanced with additional feature licenses. If requirements change in the future, you can upgrade to a higher level feature set and add another feature licence.

Cisco 12000 family
Performing Internet routing and switching at gigabit speeds, Cisco's 12000 series of gigabit switch routers are designed to meet current and future Internet traffic requirements. The Cisco 12000 GSR initially supports IP backbone links at OC-12 (622 Mbps) - four times faster than those used today - and can scale to handle links at OC-48 (2.4 Gbps) which is 16 times faster than today's links.
