Michael,

I have the following entry in my /etc/ld.so.conf, and I did run
ldconfig after checking that the entry was inthe file. The libraries
there are placed there by the qt1x-1.44-3 and qt1x-devel-1.44-3 rpms.

qt1x-devel-1.44-3: libqimgio.so, libqt.so, links to .so.x-files
qt1x-1.44-3: libqimgio.so.0,libqimgio.so.0.1, libqt.so.1, libqt.so.1.44

Entry in /etc/ld.so.conf: /usr/lib/qt-1.44/lib
