Hi all, I have a slightly baffling roblem
with a new RedHat 7.1 install I have just done. I
installed the imap rpm from the CD’s I have
(imap-2000-9). It all seems to work from the localhost,
but none of my windows clients can connect to either the pop3 or imap services. According to netstat
–a the pop3 and imap
are listening on the correct ports, *.pop3 and *.imap.
If I do telnet mailhost 110 from the windows clients
it hangs for a while and then reports unable to connect. If I do telnet mailhost 110 from the mailhost it
all works fine. The hosts entries for mailhost are correct on both the windows clients and the linux box. I’ve tried various entries in /etc/hosts.allow, eg ALL: client and
ipop3d: ALL. I’m not sure what should go in the hosts.allow
for this service, if it is even needed. There is nothing in the messages file or maillog
that refer to the failed connections.
What am I missing? Thanks Mark
