If you are using one of the faster EIDE setups (UDMA, PIO mode 4, or DMA
mode 2) be aware that 18 inches is the max cable length for reliable
operation.  Intermittent data corruption can result if you ignore this.
Some do work with longer cables but it becomes like overclocking - if you
have problems drop back to 100% "in-spec" and see if the troubles go away.
