First, I want to say thanks to everyone that gave me a hand with the
lilo.conf, it worked and I can make a clean boot to the new kernel. I'm
glad I know how to do it. But, one of the reasons that I spent the time
to compile a new kernel (besides the useful knowledge) was to incorporate
the ppp into the kernel.
In the previous kernel, the ppp was not installed. If I gave the command
dmesg | grep -i ppp it returned nothing, so I was lead to believe that ppp
was not compiled in. In the new kernel I built, I made sure I selected
the TCP/IP settings, it never asked me specifically for ppp, but I figured
it was included in the TCP/IP settings. Well, as soon as I get my new
kernel up and running I gave the dmesg | grep -i ppp command and again it
returned nothing. Did it not compile the ppp into the kernel? Or is that
the wrong command? What did I miss? Can the ppp be added as a module to
the kernel? I would eventually like to connect to the outside world using
Linux, but it's been one adventure after another to get there. I'm not
complaining too much, because I'm getting a great amount of experience
with the OS itself, but I would like to get online from Linux.
