Check and see if your portmapper is running:
ps |grep portmap
281 ? S 0:00 portmap
If not make sure you have it installed and started from
/etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S40portmap pointing to /etc/rc.d/init.d/portmap
or whatever runlevel you use.
