That's because the remote Unix system is probably using good old Bourne
Shell, which doesn't let backspaces arrows etc. work at the command line.
What you need to do is set your shell at the remote Unix system to the
"BASH" shell (the default Linux shell). This is not a function of your
terminal type, this is a function of computer manufacturers not supplying
"bash" with their systems.
If, perchance, the remote system has a "C" compiler you can install "bash"
yourself and have things work the way you're accustomed. Otherwise, well,
you're SOL.
