        You could try adding the I/O setting too..   I specify the irq, I/O
and UART in my rc.serial file.. + cos its a fast modem there's a setting u
can add which sounds a bit like "vis_hi" or somic like that..  (have a look
at the man pages.. cos that ain't the correct switch.. it somic like it tho)

        btw:  make sure u specify the I/O using the correct notation.. I
think its in the form of 0x000 (replacing the 0's with the correct settings
of course :)
