You've come across one of the great sinkholes in modern computing: the
"doc" file.  You might try the Applix suite: Applix Word can translate
between MS doc format and several others.  Also, Star Office Suite can
also.  I don't know if Word Pad can run under Wine or not.  Anyone
know?  (I haven't gotten mine to run properly yet, but that might be
another approach, assuming w95 exists on your PC somewhere.)
