You could try putting the following in your /etc/lilo.conf

append = "hdb=cdrom"



I had a similar problem with a NEC-260 CDROM it was on the secondary
master IDE interface. Linux couldn't tell whether it was a CDROM or
floppy so it assumed it was a floppy. Putting the line similar to the
above (hdc in my case) fixed the problem. The CDROM HOWTO is very good.
