Actually thanks!  Heh, funny how you always figure out
your own problems right before someone tells you the
answer.  

I did an strace -f on something that was giving me a problem
and I noticed it looking for ncureses libs, so I did a reinstall
of ncurses and that did it.  I don't understand why this happened
though...
