Hi,

I want to split my UTP Ethernet into two. Do I need to use a *bridge* or
linux [RedHat 4.1 kernel 2.0.34] can handle it itself if I provide two
network cards to it? I have following type of network:

All hosts are on same network - not subnetting. Network is 128.45.0.0.
Hosts are SCO, RedHat, WinNT, Win3.1x/95/98. Some 45 hosts are on this UTP
based 10BaseT Ethernet at the moment and they are increasing rapidly. There
are four hubs inside the net. Extensive resource sharing is done between
all platforms and all hosts remain busy almost all the time. Much load is
on RedHat [smtp/pop3, proxy] and SCO [database/dial-in] servers.

If I do need a bridge then which one would you suggest? I have so far heard
of CNET's CN9020 and 3Com's 3C8200C.

I know that I will have to enable bridging support in kernel and I will
also make changes in lilo.conf for eth0 and eth1.

Thanks

Azfar
