lpr operation

I printed to lpr many pictures from xv.  All seemed to
go well, so I left the computer.  The screen blanker
kicked in and printing stopped.  When I returned, printing
resumed.  It's like the computer missed me.

Question:  Is this normal behavior for lpr?
