First:

I mount my ZIP disk to /mnt/zip.  On the disk itself there is a directory
called "hrdi", which contains about 500 data files with names like
"nc_1034_v1_2.nc".  I just noticed a lost+found directory in there called
"/mnt/zip/hrdi/lost+found.nc".  There is no "lost+found" in "/mnt/zip".  I
don't know when this directory appeared, but it's annoying to see it
there.  I want to know what value lost+found directories have on small
removeable disks like this, and why this particular one has the additional
".nc" suffix on it.

Second:

Are there any tools or methods for determining whether I'm getting the
best possible performance out of my modem/ppp connection?  I've been
watching the net monitor on xosview, and it's making me a little neurotic
about is-this-slower-than-it-ought-to-be.  Thanks,
