First: I mount my ZIP disk to /mnt/zip. On the disk itself there is a directory called "hrdi", which contains about 500 data files with names like "nc_1034_v1_2.nc". I just noticed a lost+found directory in there called "/mnt/zip/hrdi/lost+found.nc". There is no "lost+found" in "/mnt/zip". I don't know when this directory appeared, but it's annoying to see it there. I want to know what value lost+found directories have on small removeable disks like this, and why this particular one has the additional ".nc" suffix on it. Second: Are there any tools or methods for determining whether I'm getting the best possible performance out of my modem/ppp connection? I've been watching the net monitor on xosview, and it's making me a little neurotic about is-this-slower-than-it-ought-to-be.
