Okay, I've checked that.  Everything looks fine, but I'm not sure what
BROADCAST is...???

It really is starting to sound like you didn't setup networking during your
install.
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
eg.
DEVICE=eth0
IPADDR=192.168.0.2
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
NETWORK=192.168.0.0
BROADCAST=192.168.0.255
ONBOOT=yes
Pay special attention to your NETMASK
You 'should' be able to ping your router if your on the same
subnet....NETWORK. That asumes your using proper cabling. BNC is the easest
to test with as RJ45 requires a special pinout for a direct connection.
pin 3 to 1 and pin 2 to 6, the rest straight through.
