if grub is installed, then you need to look at the /boot/grub/grub.conf
file.

grub uses

        root (hd0,0)
        kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.18-14 ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi
        initrd /initrd-2.4.18-14.img
title DOS
        rootnoverify (hd1,0)
