Err, miscommunication, I think. I wasn't the one asking the question. I
know how to make vacation work, I maintain the vacation rpm. ;)

Vacation php files? No such thing. Nor should an entry in /etc/shells be
required.

$ rpm -qlp vacation-1.2.6-1.i386.rpm
/usr/bin/vacation
/usr/bin/vaclook
/usr/share/doc/vacation-1.2.6
/usr/share/doc/vacation-1.2.6/COPYING
/usr/share/doc/vacation-1.2.6/ChangeLog
/usr/share/doc/vacation-1.2.6/README
/usr/share/doc/vacation-1.2.6/README.smrsh
/usr/share/man/man1/vacation.1.gz
/usr/share/man/man1/vaclook.1.gz
