Problems booting after installation of RH 8.0

I just finished installing RH 8.0 on a Compaq Presario 2266 (266mhz processor) and the installation process went okay. The problem is that it hangs when trying to boot the newly installed system. The last line displayed is:

apm: BIOS version 1.2 Flags 0x03 (Driver version 1.16)

Any idea what can cause this? Is there a way around it to get the system started?
