man domainname "domainname - show or set the system's NIS/YP domain name"
"-d, --domain Display the name of the DNS domain. Don't use the command domainname to get the DNS domain name because it will show the NIS domain name and not the DNS domain name. Use dnsdomainname instead." Messing with /etc/hosts will have no effect on the output of domainname. What is it that you want to see? Hi, I have installed Red Hat Linux 2.1 Advanced Server and trying to configure the network. In my /etc/hosts file I have added the following: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx hostname hostname.domain hostname Saved, and closed. On my shell (bash shell), I am typing the following : [root] : domainname -d, expecting to have my domain listed but it aint. So as to know that there is no domain name ! I am right? If yes, how can configure the domain name ? Rgds, Shirad -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=unsubscribe https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
