Howdy......:-) Running RH 5 and am trying to set up X. If I use startx the server background and an "X" will appear for about 4 seconds and then the video corrupts. If I use startx but delete the xinitrc file, then the X background appears with a command line window in it and no video corruption. I can sucessfully run programs from the command line window. I have tried editing (using # to rem out the statements) the xinitrc file but it seems that the files contents are not the problem; just the fact of having an empty file called initrc still causes the screen corruption. If I use xdm, the server appears with a logon window in which I can type my user name and password. It won't do anything past this point though. (Using xdm was a last minute experiment on my part.) Suggestions on what might be happening to cause this video corruption would be much appreciated........thanks! :-) -- PLEASE read the Red Hat FAQ, Tips, Errata and the MAILING LIST ARCHIVES! http://www.redhat.com/RedHat-FAQ /RedHat-Errata /RedHat-Tips /mailing-lists To unsubscribe: mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe" as the Subject.
